Project description:
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has embarked on ambitious, field-based conservation programs across the Congo Basin. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), WWF is active in several landscape-scale sites, including the over 10 million ha Salonga landscape, encompassing Salonga National Park the second largest forest park in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and a critical refuge for bonobos and forest elephants.
WWF seeks a Coordinator to oversee project implementation and facilitate development of a public-private co-management concept for Salonga National Park for a 9-month period (to 31 December 2012). The position will oversee the implementation of WWF’s Salonga program activities with WWF staff, collaborate with partners to advance existing projects as well as the new co-management concept.
Key responsibilities include:
• Facilitation: Facilitates process towards a potential public-private management approach between. Manage consultants developing the draft protected area concept. • Project oversight and coordination: Plans, directs and oversees project activities in accordance with the project description, work plan, budget and contractual agreements. • Project implementation: Manages the project(s) and project team . Ensures that management systems are established, and oversees the administration of the program/projects). • Administration/Financial management: Ensures development of project budgets for approval, technical and financial reporting, and monitoring of expenditures against budgets.
• Fundraising: Support development of funding proposals, facilitating coordination across donors.
PROFILE
The ideal Coordinator will have: strong project management experience; general understanding of protected area issues, especially in central Africa; knowledge of forest and wildlife management, rural development and/or community-based natural resource management; partnership skills; skills in working with a diverse range of stakeholders including government, donor community, and local NGO’s.
Required Qualifications
The Program Coordinator should have the following skills and experience: • Advanced university degree in an appropriate field (conservation / environment / natural resource or park management; rural development) • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing projects in conservation or development organizations.
