Position with WomenCraft - a community-driven social enterprise operating from Ngara, Tanzania. WomenCraft’s mission is to increase economic opportunity in the tri-border area by bringing rural women together through a social enterprise, facilitating their growth and connecting them to world markets. Through WomenCraft, artisans advance themselves, raise stronger, more educated families, stimulate their rural East African communities and, in turn, inspire the world around them. Job Objective: Sales and Marketing Manager handles customer communications and identifies national, regional, and international markets for the introduction of WomenCraft handcrafted products. The Sales Manager is goal oriented and highly motivated to reach targeted markets that will exceed sales targets.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Researches, develops and implements marketing strategies in accordance with WomenCraft’s workplan;
• Identifies and establishes market linkages in regional, national, international markets for WomenCraft’s handcrafted products. Identifies and contacts reliable buyers in retail and wholesale markets and contributes to the launch of WomenCraft’s online store;
• Maximizes WomenCraft exposure by creating marketing materials and messages and utilizing social media as well as traditional marketing strategies to reach potential customers in targeted markets as well as the general public;
• Maintains communication with customers and informs them of new developments within WomenCraft;
• Communicates with Dar es Salaam Sales Representative, analyzing sales reports and providing constructive feedback for sales activities and events;
• Communicates with U.S.-based Volunteer Marketing Representatives, provides feedback on U.S. marketing activities and coordinates U.S. marketing efforts;
• Attends local, regional and international handicraft trade shows to market WomenCraft’s products, develop trade contacts and stay current on the handicraft field;
• Involved with the product development of new and existing product lines;
• Works closely with the Director, Admin/Finance Manager, and Logistics Manager to ensure the entire process from order obtainment to order delivery is smooth, meets the order specifications, and is on time;
• Build the capacity of staff, interns and artisans in sales and marketing strategies and techniques.
Qualifications: University degree in business preferred; experience in sales required; research experience desired; dynamic and highly creative person with effective communication skills; detail oriented; proficiency in word processing, email, and internet research required; experience using Microsoft Publisher or other graphic design applications required. Ability to speak, read and write fluently in English required, ability or interest in speaking/learning Kiswahili preferred.
Job Location and Length: This is a full-time post based in Ngara, Kagera region, Tanzania A one-year renewable contract will be issued.
Pay scale: This position offers a modest living allowance and an opportunity to build international development experience.
