The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its Headquarters in Vienna is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the Treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 321 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.

Duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Engineering and Development Section, International Monitoring System Section to:
- Provide engineering, scientific and project management expertise to support the installation, testing, maintenance and development of the International Monitoring Systems (IMS) with particular emphasis on infrasound monitoring including the planning, development and implementation of projects and finding solutions for engineering related problems;
- Design, develop, and implement field solutions for the installation, repair, upgrade and integration of infrasound stations into the IMS; including evaluation of the performance of the existing IMS network and stations; testing, troubleshooting, solving problems and liaising with station operators and equipment providers and preparing related reports;
- Contribute technical expertise in the area of infrasound instrumentation, data acquisition, communications technology, computer networking applications, power supply, lightning protection, security technologies and interface issues;
- Prepare terms of reference for hardware and software development and testing;
- Support IMS training activities including technical training programmes as well as specific equipment training;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- University degree in applied physics, geophysics, earth sciences, engineering or a related field;
- At least five years relevant working experience in the field of infrasound data acquisition systems, computer network principles, communications technology, instrument responses and data exchange formats and protocols; experience in UNIX-based computer systems, including programming languages, data processing tools, Relational Databases and TCP/IP networking concepts; knowledge of MATLAB is an asset;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of one of the other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.

Remuneration/Contract:
Indicative tax-free annual net base salary (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$86,553 (without dependants) and US$92,726 (with dependants), subject to deductions of contributions to the CTBTO Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme. Additional benefits include, when applicable, dependency allowance, education grant for children, rental subsidy, six weeks vacation per year, home leave travel every two years. Initial contract for a fixed term of three years.
