Rio Tinto Alcan's worldwide operations give Rio Tinto the top global ranking in bauxite and aluminium production. It also has a number of projects in place for the Group to become the global leader in alumina.
Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA) owns, operates or has interests in 7 bauxite mines and deposits, 6 alumina refineries, 6 specialty alumina plants, 26 aluminium smelters and 13 power generating plants, 9 of them hydroelectric.
RTA maintains large, long life, cost effective operations that deliver high quality products. Our strategy is to maximise shareholder return by committing to excellence in health, safety and environmental performance; working with communities to help contribute positively to their health and sustainability; maximising value generated from existing assets; and opportunistically growing the bauxite, alumina and aluminium portfolio.
Fundamental to this strategy is the ability to leverage maximum value and innovation from end-to-end Information Systems and Technology (IS&T). In the global Rio Tinto model, delivery of IS&T services (including applications, infrastructure and projects) is the responsibility of Rio Tinto IS&T. However, each Product Group (such as RTA) remains responsible for the Product Group IS&T Strategy, Demand Management and any Product Group-specific Industrial Systems. As such, the RTA IS&T team has been established to:
- Support RTA business strategy/key drivers by developing, implementing and maintaining the RTA Product Group IS&T strategy

- Manage the demand for IS&T projects and services; eg. to ensure RTA IS&T projects are aligned with strategy, prioritised, set up for success and well executed
- Manage the Industrial Systems platform for RTA, including mining, refining, power, carbon, reduction and casting systems.
In addition to this, RTA IS&T EMEA team is also responsible of delivery and support of local infrastructure and applications on sites.
