Salary: £30,870 - £35,789 per annum
Full Time, Fixed term until 30th June 2013
(with potential to extend, subject to funding)
The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome (MLW) Programme in Blantyre, Malawi, is an internationally recognised centre for research and research training. Working with the University of Malawi College of Medicine, MLW conducts research and trains in biomedical sciences relating to Health problems important to the people of Malawi and elsewhere in the Region.
In order to maintain its continuing success, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Systems Manager to play a key strategic role in the MLW Programme, leading the design, development and maintenance of electronic databases and the database management services.
Based in Malawi, the successful candidate will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the databases and for their further development (including the introduction of new technologies) and troubleshooting. You will manage a data team comprising data officers, programmers and junior statisticians.
Possessing a minimum of a bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, you will have experience of managing staff or leading a small team, and will have previously worked in a medical and/or epidemiological research context, or have other relevant experience. Prior experience of working overseas in a resource-poor environment would be beneficial, but is not essential.
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes and advanced proficiency in the development and the management and the maintenance of relational databases using SQL server are also prerequisites for this role. Statistical skills and previous exposure to statistical software packages would be beneficial for the role.
