The Food Economy Group (FEG) is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Chief of Party position on a project which is slated to begin in February 2012. The project aims to promote practical applications of existing livelihoods information in aiding the decision-making process, both on the emergency response and the development planning sides, and building capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in Ethiopia.
Education Requirements: The minimum qualifications for the COP candidate will include a Master’s Degree in humanitarian program management, natural disaster risk sciences, environment, climate change adaptation, rural development; or related field of study or equivalent work experience.
The COP will act as the key liaison between USAID/Ethiopia and all other counterparts, implementing partners and Government of Ethiopia officials involved with the program. The position requires significant coordination skills, broad general and technical knowledge, experience in developing countries and skills to ensure coherence and consistency. Her/his primary responsibilities are aimed at providing overall leadership management and general technical direction of the entire program, ensuring an integrated vision among different components and actors, and a focus on achieving the results defined in the contract. This individual will be expected to identify issues and risks related to program implementation in a timely manner, and suggest appropriate program adjustments.
Experience Requirements: Ten (10) years or more of progressively responsible international work experience implementing DRR and/or CCA programs with demonstrated strong management and coordinating skills. The COP will preferably possess at least five (5) years of experience, including research on DRR and/or CCA capacity building, developing analytical tools and training.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Incumbent preferably has demonstrated Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills especially networking, developing and implementing DRR and early warning tools. Demonstrated professional competence, knowledge and understanding of DRR/CCA, experience in developing and managing DRR/CCA research and analysis tools.
