ABOUT REDR RedR is an international charity that improves the effectiveness of disaster relief, helping save and rebuild the lives of people affected by disaster worldwide.
RedR has been providing training in safety, security and risk management for humanitarian organisations in Darfur since January 2005. We deliver essential training across Sudan; in Khartoum, El Fasher, Nyala and El Geneina to ensure aid workers have the knowledge and skills to best protect them in an emergency or hostile situation. Currently we have two programmes; Staff Safety and Staff Welfare.
THE ROLE In this role, the Security Advisor will act as a focal point for matters relating to the safety and security of RedR staff and programmes in Sudan. In addition, a major part of the role will also be to respond to security management queries from the NGO community, supporting the development and delivery of RedR’s external training courses. The post holder must be an experienced professional in the area of security and have experience in training and facilitation. The full description is available on the website.
PERSON SPECIFICATION The successful candidate will have strong technical competencies in safety management and experience with the NGO security management framework in relief, rehabilitation and recovery phases. Multidisciplinary safety and security management skills should be relevant to a volatile and dangerous environment and solid experience in participatory training in safety related subjects with a proven track record are key requirements. Familiarity with humanitarian operations, backed up by relevant experience in complex emergencies is essential. The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level, demonstrate cultural awareness, have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, fluent in spoken and written English, willing to learn Arabic and able to travel within Sudan.
