RHU is to begin implementing a project entitled-’Promoting Family Planning for Gender Equality and Development – an East African Regional Advocacy Project (2012 – 2014)’. Its ultimate aim is to Increase women’s access to family planning services through intensified advocacy efforts at local, national and regional levels, in addition to community empowerment at local level.
In this regard, RHU requires persons to fill the following positions for n period ending 2014
Position: District Community Officer
Duty Station: Luwero
Reports to: National Advocacy Officer
Job Role
S/he will be responsible for the day to day implementation and monitoring of community activities at local and district level with support from the National Advocacy Officer. The District Community Officer will engage in advocacy activities with district allies in Family planning
Key Result Areas
I. Community mobilization (30%)
* Establishes groups of community advocates for women’s empowerment and access to FP
* Works with community advocates to schedule and implement engage them in district advocacy activities
* Facilitates social mobilization activities for the empowerment of women in district communities including supporting and facilitating the smooth running of community groups..
* Engages with local leaders for the support of the community advocates
II. Coalition building at district level (30%)
* Establishes alliances, networks and movements with individuals and organizations influencing FP in the district
* Uses project data and community voices to advocate for vulnerable women with poor information and services related to FP in the selected districts.
* Establishes good rapport with duty bearers at district level through regular communication.
III. Capacity building (30%)
* Selects, trains and coaches community advocates for Family Planning (volunteers).
* Supports women to mobilize other women in the community to increase their demand for FP.
* Provides technical assistance to district stakeholders in area of Family Planning as required and relevant.
IV. Monitoring & Evaluation (10%)
* Works with the National Advocacy Officer to establish appropriate systems to manage program and financial records.
* Provides necessary data to the coalition partners under the agreement of the National Advocacy Officer.
* Documents women’s stories in a systematic manner.
* Provides reports to the National Advocacy Officer quarterly, reporting on progress, results, and case stories.
Requirement:
Knowledge and skills
Strong knowledge and skills in dealing with local authorities and communities, ethical rules of confidentialities, wide knowledge and practical skill in communicating Reproductive Health is a must
Training and experience
University degree in fields related to, population, public health or behavioural sciences (preferred), in the above disciplines with at least three years’ experience implementing projects related to research, advocacy and community empowerment (required).
