Akilah is a college for young women in Kigali, Rwanda. Akilah is creating a new model of education for young women in Rwanda by providing training that is a direct response to the needs of the business community. Our first 2-year Diploma in Hospitality Management prepares young women to find meaningful employment and launch ventures in the fastest growing sector of the Rwandan economy. We are developing a new Degree in Business Management & Entrepreneurship.
We are currently located in the capital of Kigali but we will relocate to Bugesera district after we have finished renovating our new campus (see www.AkilahInstitute.org/campus for more information). We are growing to a student population of 1,000 students.
Position: Agriculture Program Director
Akilah is looking for an extraordinary individual to take a leadership role at Akilah as the Agriculture Program Director. This individual must have 5-7 years of experience within the sustainable agriculture field. This position will oversee the technical development of the campus.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with a team of consultants from ECHO Global Farm to develop strategic plan for the development of a farm on the new 90 acre Akilah campus in Bugesera District, Rwanda.
- Oversee the implementation and planting of this farm, based on the principles of permaculture.
- Design short-term training opportunities for local community members and students to participate in the operations of the farm.
This individual will play a critical role in developing the site plan and strategic direction of the Akilah Institute and our focus on creating a sustainable campus. This individual must have a passion for womens education, sustainability, and rural development. Individual must be willing to make a minimum commitment of 2 years.
Candidate will work very closely with the new Business Development Manager who will be developing and implementing student-run campus businesses.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in developing programs within a collaborative environment, show ability to multi task, understand African culture and business development, communicate his/her approach clearly to stakeholders and supervisors, and have a mission-focused approach to the design and implementation of the Akilah Institute permaculture plan.
