Humanitarian Programme Coordinator - Wajir
£23,090 - £29,954 net pa
Based in Nairobi, with frequent travel to the field
Severe drought in the drylands of northern Kenya mean that wells have dried up, animals are weak and malnutrition is rising. Oxfam is working with local partners to provide short term aid and long term development to alleviate the impact. And by delivering Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Emergency Food, Security and Livelihoods (EFSL) strategies, you’ll help the people of Wajir to get back on their feet.
The role
A key member of the Country Management team, you’ll work closely with our in-country teams to develop, coordinate and implement Drought Response Programmes across Wajir. It’s all about improving our ability to respond to emergencies, provide clean, safe water and enhance livelihoods. And with strong relationships the foundation of our programmes, it’ll be up to you to liaise and coordinate with partner organisations, the local government and Oxfam employees on the ground – working together to develop improved strategies for our Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Emergency Food, Security and Livelihoods (EFSL) humanitarian programmes – effectively delivering solutions that’ll really make a difference.
What we’re looking for
Coming from a background in emergency management with another NGO, you’ll have programme management experience in a humanitarian emergency context needed to enable you to hit the ground running. A real understanding of the work we do in alignment with WASH and EFSL is vital. And because you’ll be dealing with a wide range of donors, Oxfam members and government officials, your networking and people management skills must be second to none. The nature of the role means you’ll often have to travel across the region in changeable situations. But no matter the pressure you’re under, you’ll stay patient, professional and sensitive to cultural and gender differences, representing Oxfam to the best of your ability.
About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
