Position Title Country Programme Manager- Kenya
Duty Station Nairobi, Kenya
Duration: 1 Year, renewable
Availability: Immediately
ROLE
The Country Co-ordinator reports to the Regional Director and his / her role is to coordinate and
develop new and existing programs of VSF – Belgium in Kenya and further develop it.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
A) Strategies:
• Develop the national Strategy and programs and contribute to the regional strategy
B) Programme implementation :
• Ensure the good implementation of the country strategy and program for Kenya in
accordance with VSF – B strategy for East – Africa
C) Quality :
• Ensure high quality of the programs by monitoring and evaluating.
• Ensure compliance of donor rules and VSF –B procedures are adhered to.
D) Management of partnerships and grant management by:-
• Lead and coordinate project activities with the consortium members.
• Identify and propagate areas of commonality between all partners involved in the
consortium
E) Country office management:
• Ensure that staff in Kenya projects have the capacity to implement the projects /
programmes professionally and efficiently
F) Representation;
• Display positive image of VSF-B as a leading organization among partners in Kenya
and sub-region.
Essential or MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
Masters degree in a development related field
Knowledge and experience
• At least 5 years of senior management experience in recognized development and
humanitarian organizations
• Experience in developing and implementing development/humanitarian programs.
• Experience in budget management, staff management and strategic management.
• At least 4 years working experience in Africa
• Knowledge and experience of project cycle management
• Track record in building capacity of staff and partner organizations
• Experience with working with multiple stakeholders
Skills
• Ability to think creatively and strategically and put this into practice
• Excellent management skills
• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Strong communication skills (interpersonal)
• Computer literacy (with strong excel skills)
• Ability to network and prepare and present issues at all levels
• Fluent in English
• Basic knowledge of French would be an added value
Attitudes
• Identify him/herself with the mission, vision and values of VSF-B
• Display intercultural sensitivity
• Respect in dealing with others
• Affinity for NGO work in general
• Willingness to travel (regular visits to the field locations, to the Regional office in
Nairobi)
