- Degree in Mining Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry in large open pit operations utilising excavators and large trucks.
- Demonstrate initiative by being able to take full responsibility for safety, production and quality of the mining operation (drilling, blasting, excavation, dumping & construction)
- Ability and experience in training, coaching and mentoring subordinate personnel. Institute and manage skills and technological transfer for effective succession planning
- Experience in the use of Gemcom/Surpac and other mining software packages. Practical knowledge in the use of spreadsheet and database software packages
- Experience in Open Pit optimizations preferably in multi-element deposits, pit designing and production scheduling.
- Competent person for purposes of Ore Reserves reporting as per the JORC code.
- The Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for strategic, long and short term Mine Planning, Mine Design and Mine Production. The position is a leadership role and so is accountable for ensuring that the Senior Mining Engineers are supported to ensure quality delivery of plans and schedules in a timely manner that are in line with the monthly plan and budget.
- Be pro-active in all aspects of operation safety, efficient utilisation of resources, Continuous Improvement initiatives; and encourage teamwork across the departments.
- Ensure open pit optimisation and designs are completed to the company standards and requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that all corporate requirements are adhered to.
- Work in co-operation with the Geology Department for reporting of mid and end of the year Ore Reserves.
- Reviewing on a regular basis the Life of Mine (LOM) defining mining strategies to ensure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved.
- Supervise the Senior Mining Engineers in compilation of production data and reporting.
- Co-ordinate and incorporate inputs from various sections e.g. geology, geotechnical engineering, mine operations survey into the production schedules and designs.
- Supervise the Mining Production Engineers to ensure that excavation achieves the design specifications (e.g. bench toe & crest, ramps, haul roads) and that waste dump benches follow the designed sequence and are rehabilitated to meet sustainable Environmental standards.
- Demonstrate high level of communication with the Technical Services Team and other departments and commitment to continuously improve current procedures.
- Deputise for the Manager – Technical Services as required.
- Manage the Succession Planning of the Engineers within the Technical Services Team to ensure that the PML commitments with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability are achieved.
- Manage business decisions and transaction in compliance to the Company Code of Ethics and compliance to the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) law and standards.
- Any other duties that may be assigned to fulfill the overall business objective.
