Program Overview The Integrated Family Health Program is a five-year, $50 million program funded by USAID. Through this program, Pathfinder and its partners promote an integrated model for strengthening maternal and child health, family planning, and reproductive health services for rural and hard-to-reach populations primarily in four regions of Ethiopia (Oromiya, Tigray, SNNP and Amhara). With the overall goal of improved family health, the Program is strengthening the capacity of the health system to deliver key health services and commodities. Support focuses on building transparent, functional administrative and technical systems to promote the Federal Ministry of Health's Health Extension Program, strengthening primary health care units, and improving the overall quality of health services. The program has four expected results: Improved health practices at the household and community level Improved availability and quality of health services, products and information Strengthened health system to support health services Systematic program learning to inform policy and program investment While Pathfinder is the lead agency for the program, team members include John Snow, Inc. (JSI) and the Ethiopian NGO - Consortium for Reproductive Health Associations (CORHA). Position Purpose The Senior Advisor for Knowledge Management and Documentation is responsible for ensuring maximum analysis and use of project data to document and disseminate lessons learned from program implementation. His/her primary functions are ensuring the identification and documentation of major program initiatives, findings of studies that the program might commission, best practices, success stories, and milestones attained by the organization or program. The Senior Advisor for Knowledge Management and Documentation is responsible for designing an achievable knowledge management program, including a learning and communications plan and a documentation and dissemination strategy for the project. S/he leads efforts and provides technical expertise and guidance for the documentation of best practices and success stories within IFHP, other Pathfinder implemented activities in Ethiopia, and of the major sub-grantees. S/he also leads the dissemination of these documents and findings to appropriate stakeholders of the various programs and projects. S/he supervises the members of the unit, which consists of the Communications and Awareness Raising Manager, the Technical Writer, and other staff. S/he is responsible for identifying and contracting consultants to manage studies, research activities, and the publication of major documents of lessons learned from the various programs implemented, and use these publications for initiating dialogue on policy. Key Responsibilities Develops and updates strategic plan for knowledge management. This includes a communication and a dissemination plan, as well as assisting program staff to identify relevant program learning agendas. Promotes knowledge sharing within the Program by strengthening links between thematic teams and his/her team, as well as the Monitoring and Evaluation units of the various programs implemented by Pathfinder International and its partners in Ethiopia. Identifies and promotes appropriate tools to facilitate the sharing of ideas and collaborative work among international teams and external partners. Facilitates and coordinates learning forums such as workshops and conferences Coordinates sharing of experiences among all stakeholders, and shares with all networks new and innovative approaches to knowledge sharing. Helps monitor and evaluate the knowledge sharing activities among regional programs in consultation with the M&E team. Helps disseminate information about the organization's best practices to internal and external audiences, including organizing knowledge sharing events (such as knowledge fairs, site visits, interviews), maintaining communications on knowledge sharing across the organization, participation in orientation and training sessions, and preparation of brochures/presentations. Prepares periodic briefers; compendiums of studies and research, including operational research undertakings conducted by the various programs. Prepares periodic technical briefs and quarterly bulletins highlighting major events and program milestones in collaboration with thematic area advisors or regional managers and staff. Prepares annual reports of the various programs for communication and wider public use. Distributes the briefers, technical briefs, quarterly bulletins, and annual reports; ensuring the dissemination to all appropriate stakeholders. Makes project presentations on the program and/or organization visibility as needed. Carries out all other duties as assigned by management. Basic Requirements At least 10 years of experience in identifying and documenting best practices, success stories and reportable lessons; and must have experience in building staff’s capacity in identifying best practices and use of program information to improve program implementation (written samples showing identification and documentation of best practices must be presented if short listed from among applicants). Must have experience with and knowledge of the latest collaborative tools, knowledge sharing strategies, and facilitation techniques. Must have experience in development of scopes of work; consultancy contracts; and evaluations of bids. Outstanding writing and editing skills in both English (major working language) and Amharic is a requirement of high importance. Outstanding analytical and documentation skills and proficient verbal presentation talent in English and Amharic is also a requirement. Must have proven leadership and management skills; strong coordination skills; skills in organizing workshops and seminars; and demonstrated track record in managing a project team and consultants. Experience in carrying out or leading several research and/or studies and assessments /evaluations of development and/or health projects and dissemination of same to stakeholders in large gatherings and workshops, preferably with international agencies is advantageous. Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish solid working relationships with partner and stakeholder organizations. Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced work environment, shifting priorities, and multiple deadlines. Experienced in using software packages, including Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Photoshop, etc. Ability and willingness to travel to as needed.
