REPORTS TO: Livelihoods/Food Security Supervisor

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
The Food Security Project Assistant will be responsible for the following activities;
• Responsible for the direct day to day implementation of UMCOR’s Innovative Food Security Project in NBeG State
• Support the Food Security Project Supervisor in the achievement of the project objectives in accordance with the grant document
• Ensure that project activities are implemented in a timely manner per project document, ensuring that quality assurance is maintained at all stages of implementation
• Develop grassroots training programs and teaching materials with particular emphasis on participatory methodology together with the Food Security Project Supervisor and UMCOR partners.
• Identify farmers and livelihood enterprise groups and lead the capacity building initiatives and relevant support to these groups
• Institute gender sensitive initiatives in project delivery
• Responsible for accurate documentation of project activities in line with the grant document
• Participate in planning and conducting project assessments and evaluations
• Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and quarterly project work-plans
• Compile and submit to the Food Security Project Supervisor timely weekly, bi-weekly and monthly narrative project progress reports in accordance with internal and external requirements and deadlines
• Represent UMCOR externally in the Food Security Sector at Payam level, contribute to improved coordination through the Payam-based meetings and liaise with local authorities
• In consultation with the Food Security Project Supervisor communicate, exchange information and cooperate with both internal and external actors to ensure an integrated approach and to mobilize appropriate interventions
• Perform any other duty as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree/Tertiary qualifications in agriculture, rural development, nutrition, social sciences or a related field
• A minimum of four years field work experience working in food security & livelihood projects, preferably in sub-Saharan rural Africa
• Advanced level of technical knowledge of food security and livelihoods programming
• Solid experience in establishing and managing Food Security/Livelihood operations, including the formulation of strategies, plans of action and reports
• Experience of project management, including assessments, design, planning, implementation, and M&E
• Experience in personnel management and developing teams
• Experience in advocacy and rights-based approaches
Essential Skills
• Proficiency in written and spoken English; proficiency in local dialect is considered an asset
• Excellent computer skills
• Proven communication, interpersonal, representation, negotiation and leadership skills
• Analytical skills, strong reporting and writing skills, and demonstrated capacity in numerical analysis
• Able to set priorities, prepare manageable work plans and evaluate progress
• Significant understanding of working in complex emergencies and stable environment, willingness to travel in areas with fluctuating security conditions
• Political, cultural and gender sensitivity and ability to communicate well with local communities
Personal qualities
• Goal oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently under pressure
• Patience, adaptability, and the capacity to work with little infrastructure and in difficult conditions, including transport limitations
Flexible, creative, transparent, and it helps to have a good sense of humor
