Currently there are no Johanniter structures in South Sudan. Since 2004 Johanniter has been focusing on projects in South Darfur, implementing health activities with a focus on primary health care, emergency rehabilitation and/or construction of PHC structures as well as control of disease outbreaks and health education. In 2005, Johanniter started working in South Sudan in the state of Jonglei but closed its activities in 2008. Having been absent from South Sudan for around 3 years, Johanniter is currently restarting its activities in the health sector in the country. A recently conducted assessment identified the state Western Equatoria as a possible future area of project implementation.
The Country Director will be responsible for the establishment, development and implementation of the Johanniter South Sudan country strategy. He/she will create all required structures to initiate and promote the program’s implementation in the country. This includes the opening and leadership of offices in Juba and Western Equatoria, whereby the leading responsibility of the Country Office will be shifted from Juba to Western Equatoria after about 6 months, then turning Juba into a liaison office. Supported by a team of expatriates and local staff, the Country Director will be responsible for the acquisition, planning, coordination and monitoring of all project activities in South Sudan.
