SENIOR LIBRARIAN (SYSTEMS) Library Services

Duties: This is a Coordinator position; incumbent is responsible for: providing strategic leadership in planning, implementation, and support of library technology focusing on technologies that improve the efficiency, agility and capacity of the library as a sustainable service provider; primary and technical responsibility for library platforms, including Innovative Millennium, Ariel support, Electronic Resource Management (ERM), public catalogue interface management; work with technologies, standards and scripting languages such as JavaScript, MySQL, SHTML and mobile technologies to build/implement applications that enhance user experience or improve staff workflow; collaborate with e-resources staff to support maintenance and development of the library’s OpenURL and AtoZ services as well as potential discovery systems; responsible for training staff in Millennium/Innopac and other Library applications. Requirements: Masters degree in Library and Information Studies plus a minimum of 5 years experience in an academic Library, three of which must be at supervisory level; experience in a library technology position, supporting systems for library management, network infrastructure, digital library services, web development and emerging technologies as they relate to delivery of library services; knowledge of and experience with digital library technologies; demonstrated experience in an integrated library systems; OR an MS in Computer Science, demonstrated experience in an integrated library systems; provision of web-based services, programming and database design over a minimum of 5 years in academic library and/or academic computing; familiarity with standards for library systems such as MARC21, Dublin Core, authentication and protocol for search and retrieval, messaging and networking such as EDI, Z39.50, Open URL, OAI, FTP; ability to understand and analyze the use of computing technology in support of library operations and functions; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent written, oral communication skills and good skills in facilitation of training. Competencies: Experience with Innovative Interfaces integrated library system software (Innopac/Millennium); ability to train in Millennium/Innopac and other Library applications, web development and database skills using industry standard tools, applications and languages; proficiency in digital library standards for description, access, delivery and preservation; Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with NT network environment.
