DENIVA is a National Network of Non-Governmental and Community Based Organizations (NGO's/CBO's) providing a platform tor collective action and voice to voluntary local non government organizations to strongly advocate for the creation ot more opportunities for people and NGO participation in the development of Uganda. Founded in 1988 DENIVA provides its members and other CSO's with a platform and support to pursue policy advocacy and related issues in a collective manner with the main goal of poverty reduction, good governance and empowerment of the marginalized. The over 800 strong membership comprises of local, district, regional, national NGOs, CBOs and FBOs operating in different parts of the country and pursuing a wide range of developmental interests.
DENIVA celebrated its 20 years of existence in 2009, and as it enters a new decade, DENIVA is revitalizing itself to enhance its relevance and responsiveness in a rapidly changing socio-economic and political environment. The organization therefore seeks to recruit dynamic, focused, experienced and highly motivated individuals for the posts below to strengthen the network's secretariat in order for it to realize the aspiration of its members and for the civil society in general.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Executive Director heads the Secretariat of the Organization and is responsible for providing strategic direction and marketing of the organization, its values and programmes. This position requires an outstanding performer able to build and lead a team of highly motivated staff and membership. The person must be aggressive, intellectual with a passion to work in the NGO Sector across issues and at different levels.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
• Chief Executive Officer of the Secretarial
• Reporting to the Chairperson, Board of Directors
• Provide strategic direction and inspiration to the Network
• Manage and supervise the overall administrative and financial affairs of the network
• Responsible for overall programme design and implementation
• Provide strong representation of the network's interests at national and international level
• Ensure visibility and effectiveness of advocacy activities in pursuit of policy positions generated by the network
• Inspire and build linkages between DENIVA's constituencies.
• Facilitate the generation of strategic ideas and think tanking in the sector of civil society locally and globally
• •. Take lead in fundraising and resource mobilization for the organization
• Ensure gender mainstreaming within the programmes and the network
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the Board

Job requirement
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PROFILE:
• Minimum of Masters Degree in Social Sciences, Arts, Humanities or Development related field
• A! least 10 years experience working with an NGO of which five must be at a senior level with extensive experience working with Donors, reporting and management of donor funds
• Strong management skills, with ability to coach, mentor and develop staff, proven record of building and managing teams and creating an enabling work environment, including the ability to effectively lead, develop and evaluate staff performance.
• Should demonstrate strong oral and writing skills, including ability to convey complex concepts to different stakeholders in a clear and concise style
• Outstanding coordination skills, with ability to manage multiple activities concurrently, work under pressure, and to tight deadlines
• Commands a high level of respect and tact when dealing with stakeholders including civil society representatives, Government officials, donors and other stakeholders
• Should have practical Research experience with clear understanding of research concepts models and practices
• Must have extensive knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation of programmes and resources
• Extensive experience in Project development and management supported by some basic financial knowledge. Ability to interpret financial reports shall be of added advantage
• Sound understanding of social policy issues, together with the advocacy and capacity needs of NGO
