Overview: Global Peace Festival Foundation (GPFF) is a global movement of committed peace builders that promote the vision of peace through building interfaith partnerships, vibrant families, and a culture of service. The Character Competencies Initiative (CCI) is one of several key, peace-building initiatives of GPFF in Kenya and East Africa. It was specifically highlighted at the Global Peace Convention, International Young Leaders Summit and Global Peace Festival held in Nairobi in November 2010. The H.E. Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Raila Odinga served as patrons of the Convention and Festival respectively. These events had a special focus on resolving identity-based conflict, the role of faith leaders in peace building, microfinance and community-driven development, and character training as a critical component of responsible citizenship.
Position: The CCI Director calls for an innovative and entrepreneurial leader that engages educators and community leaders in grassroots efforts to empower youth on critical, relational and peace-building competencies. This program serves school-aged and out-of-school youth with an emphasis on recognizing educators, parents and community members as assets and empowering them accordingly. GPFF has organized around a community driven development model that engages the entire community in character competencies. This position is an opportunity for the CCI Director to take innovative leadership to make a difference in their community and in being part of an international organization.
Responsibilities: • Develop, expand, lead and oversee the CCI’s activities and programs.
• Develop the CCI in 6 lead pilot schools by working with each school’s Principal and Character Competencies Committee (CCC) to identify, document and disseminate best practices, and trouble shoot challenges.
• Growing ones knowledge of established best practices by networking with character educators in other countries.
• Train educators on how to incorporate character education into existing curriculum, and identify school wide and community opportunities
• Expanding the program from the 6 lead pilot school initiative to emerging pilot schools
• Engage and develop the National Character Competencies Council that has been setup as an advisory board to guide the initiative.
• Engage key stakeholder groups such as the Ministry of Education, National Association of Principals, National Association of Teachers, National Parent Association to develop the CCI
• Develop and partnerships with community based organizations, corporate and business community, education and schools, government, faith-based groups and develop MOU’s with partners.
• Expand the capacity of CCI by recruiting, orienting, training and supervising college students and intern teams.
• Plan capacity building workshops for lead and emerging pilot schools.
• Effectively document all programs, projects and trainings including written reports, photographs and video (when applicable)
• Represent GPFF’s and its program’s to the community through marketing, one-on-one networking with key stakeholders, media outlets and social networking.
• Oversee Monitoring and Evaluation of CCI in lead pilot schools.
• Raise funds (cash and in-kind) to cover program expenses by cultivating corporate, government, foundation and individual donors.

• Energy: Energetic, enthusiastic and self-motivating attitude that excels in a social entrepreneurial environment.
• Passion for the mission of the Global Peace Festival Foundation in creating peaceful communities.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (e.g. Program development, project management, etc.)
• Experience: Several years of achievement in the private or nonprofit sectors with demonstrated success delivering ambitious program and capacity building goals.
• Project Management: Would be an added benefit.
