The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH), www.go2itech.org, based at the University of Washington was established in 2002 by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). l-TECH has been working in Botswana since 2004 in partnership with US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Global AIDS Program in Botswana (BOTUSA), the Botswana Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ministry of Local Government (MLG), and the University of Botswana (UB), to build capacity for addressing Botswana's HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Medical Officer (Monitoring and Evaluation)
The International Training and Education Center for Health seeks to hire a Medical Officer to be seconded to the Ministry of Health, Botswana National Tuberculosis Programme (BNTP) to focus on monitoring and evaluation. This will assist with the collection and utilization of TB-related data of national scope for the purpose of effective, efficient, and harmonized health planning, monitoring, and evaluation to meet the national health goals and objectives. The Officer will serve as an understudy to an expatriate epidemiologist to gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the collection of quality data related to TB. The position is based in Gaborone, Botswana, with significant in country travel to districts.
General Roles and Responsibilities include
Under the leadership of the Director of Public Health and the BNTP Manager and under the guidance of the Senior MandE Officer:
• Conducts assessments of the health informatics environments, synthesizes pertinent information, and identifies implications for planning and development
• Contributes to the planning, development, and implementation of data systems, products and services to integrate national data collection systems and ensure data quality, security, utilization, and harmonization.
• Ensures coordination in data systems planning, development, and implementation between the MOH Departments, units, and appropriate external organizations.
• Participates in the development and implementation of operational research, including the dissemination of findings.
• Coordinates the preparation of progress and annual reports and ensures their timely distribution to stakeholders.
• Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by the management
• Actively participate in National TB programme management
Required Qualifications, Skills and attributes
• Medical Officer with a public health qualification and interest in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or MandE.
Experience working with TB programmes.
• Managerial experience in a setting involving the use of health information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people of different cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to apply problem-solving skills to ongoing challenges.
• Strong organizing, planning, and prioritizing skills.
• Capacity to operate both as a team player in large diverse teams as well as individually.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
• Previous experience in doing infectious disease-related operational research is an advantage
