Role and Responsibilities
Management of grants (proposal writing, budget writing, report writing). Support to Field Project Coordinators in appropriate aspects of project management, financial management and implementation. Acting Country Director during leave, travel etc of the Country Director (CD).
Project Overview
Broad portfolio of projects in West Darfur (Multisectoral in an acute and ongoing conflict) and South Kordofan (Multisectoral); Emergency Response to disease outbreaks etc.

Key activity areas
Grant Management
• Shared responsibility with the CD for management of donor grants and funds for all projects in Sudan (Northern States) including project pipeline management, proposal writing, reporting and where necessary representation to donors. • Management of the process of writing monthly, quarterly & final reports for all projects and ensuring timely submission to donors in coordination with the field Projects Managers and the CD.
Programme Management
• Responsibility to ensure timely and accurate project implementation through direct supervision of Field Project Coordinators and regular M&E activities. • Provide all necessary technical support to Field Project Staff in collaboration with WASH and Medical Coordinators. • Planning, organizing and leading quarterly Project Management workshops. • Defining and implementing global Medair country programme strategy in collaboration with CD, DCD-Programme Support (DCD-PS), Medical Advisor and WASH Advisor.
Financial Management
• Development of budgets, in collaboration with the field and Medair HQ, for projects and programme costs, ensuring they meet all relevant donor and Medair requirements. • Supervising budget management and expenditure, in collaboration with the field, Khartoum, and Medair HQ. • Advising Country Director, DCD-PS and Field Project Coordinators on financial status of projects.
Acting Country Director
• Shared responsibility with DCD-Programme Support to replace the Country Director during leave, travel etc as directed by the Country Director.
Security Management
• Adhere to the security guidelines employed by Medair and assist in their updating. • Assist the Country Director in managing security incidents.
Quality Management
• Promote and use Medair’s standardised processes. • Strive to adhere to Sphere standards. • Champion and focal point for HAP/BAP across all programmes.
Qualifications
• University degree and or relevant professional experience • Post-graduate qualification in relief or development
Experience / Competencies
• 2-3 years progressively senior field management experience in relief & rehabilitation projects in insecure environments • Advanced project and management skills • Experience in training/mentoring staff • Excellent communication skills • High professional commitment • Team Player with excellent interpersonal skills; Committed to consultative and servant leadership • Committed to team-building and able to develop and support other team members and national staff • Excellent proposal and report-writing skills • Excellent financial management skills (budget design and financial controls) • Good knowledge of donor reporting and financial requirements • Able to manage own work and resources in order to meet time-bound objectives • Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with beneficiaries, colleagues, donors and other agencies’ staff • Capacity to give spiritual support • Flexibility and willingness to cover other roles as needed
Medair standard working requirements for the field
• Committed to Medair values • At least one year of professional experience in a relevant field • Minimum 3 months inter-cultural overseas experience • Single, or married (without dependent children) • Strong English communication skills (oral and written) • Familiar with Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook • Able to live and work with a multicultural team under difficult conditions • Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty, and physically fit • Successful completion of Medair Relief & Rehabilitation Orientation Course (ROC)

Working Conditions
Based in Khartoum, the role requires regular trips to the field (ie: Darfur and South Kordofan - probably short, but possibly extended, depending on project needs and circumstances), where living conditions are more basic, and attention must be paid to the risk of insecurity. It may be necessary to work in other locations in Sudan on occasions, depending on project needs and circumstances. Such locations may have different facilities and security conditions.
